Why should I backup my website? Doesn't my hosting company do this?

Just like any data, it is always important to have a back up of your website in case on unforeseeable problems. Things outside of your control: server crashes, disasters, hosting companies going out of business; or things in your control: forgetting to pay your hosting bill, messing something up on your website, accidentally deleting or editing the files on the server; can be reasons to have an independent back up of your website INCLUDING any of the MySql databases your website uses for its content.

While hosting companies generally make backups, these aren't always available to the end consumer. If they are, they can sometimes carry a heavy fee, and there is no way of knowing when the last backup was or how long it will take for them to restore the back up files.

This is why it is important to have an independent backup and restore solution. Or a back up plan already in place with your hosting company. If you are unsure if your site is being regularly backed up, please contact your hosting company. If you need help finding a backup solution, please Contact Us.
